NOTICE: The Diversity in Government Relations (DGR) Coalition Concluded Operations in 2026
In 2021, we set out to build something that did not yet exist. The DGR Coalition was born from a shared belief that the government relations profession could be and should be stronger, more inclusive, and more reflective of the communities it serves.
We did more than talk about change. We convened people who might not otherwise have shared a room, bringing together diverse voices around a common purpose. We launched an industry pledge and the first government relations survey of its kind, adding meaningful perspective to the body of research that shapes how our field understands itself. We published opinion pieces, were featured in Politico, and showed up each quarter with practical tools and resources to support practitioners in real time, creating space for growth and shared accountability.
Most importantly, we demonstrated that this work is collective by design. It has never belonged to one organization or group. It belongs to the community. We stood alongside peers and partners, benefiting from the generosity of their insight, time, and leadership. It has truly been a privilege to build this together.
We close this chapter not only with gratitude, but with confidence that what was seeded will continue to grow because this work does not end here. Partner organizations like the Asian American Pacific Islander Leadership Association, the Hispanic Lobbying Association, Q Street, Women in Government Relations, and Washington Government Relations Group have long been committed to building a profession that reflects the full breadth of American experience. Their continued leadership, programming, and community-building are where so much of this work lives and grows. We encourage those who have been part of the DGR community to engage, connect, and contribute through these organizations and others doing this important work.
Thank you for having been part of this journey with us.

Survey Report
The results of the DGR Coalition’s inaugural Diversity & Inclusion in Government Relations survey indicates disparities in workplace experiences among government relations professionals. The report is organized across five domains that measure fairness & opportunity, decision-making, voice, belonging, and diversity in order to assess divergent and intersectional experiences among government relations professionals.
A Multi-Generational Workforce: Diverging Perspectives on the Employee Experience
Our 2021-2023 Diversity & Inclusion in Government Relations survey highlighted disparities in workplace experiences, often shaped by individual identities. In a follow-up addendum, we reexamined the data to uncover additional insights, focusing specifically on generational identity and its impact on workplace experiences.
